Before I got married, 28 years ago, my mother painstakingly hand wrote over a hundred recipes which she had collected over the years. Knowing that I was not too fond of cooking or eating(!), she worried for the welfare of my family! And hence went through all this trouble to ensure my family didn't starve!
This file has been with me through several relocations — UK, Singapore and then back in India. It was my lifeline, and I breezed through many a dinner party solely with the help of these recipes!
Shortly after returning to India, I lost my mother to cancer in 2014. The recipes gained even more sentiment and meaning for me. I continued to experience her love through every dish she had guided me to cook.
Over the years, the pages turned yellow and the ink began to fade. The paper turned more and more fragile, and I felt the urgent need to do something to preserve her labour of love. And from this need was born — My Legacy Kitchen.
It soon dawned on me that so many of us have someone close to them — someone whose cooking made everything better. Many of us may feel the need to preserve these recipes as a legacy for the next generation.
So My Legacy Kitchen became something bigger: a place where anyone can honour and celebrate the brilliant cooks in their lives. A parent, a grandparent, a partner, a friend — whoever made your world taste like home.
Every recipe here comes with a personal memory, because food is never just about nourishment. It is about togetherness and love.
If there's someone whose cooking brought you joy, this is your space to celebrate their recipes — for yourself, your family, and for everyone who deserves to taste the love they shared.
